When Founder Robin Petgrave started TAM, he wanted to impact as many students as he could through aviation. Landing his helicopters directly on school grounds proved to be an effective way to do that. Through this amazing and exciting spectacle (teachers often get excited too!), Robin is able to grab their attention and use the opportunity to motivate them to excel in school.

Robin uses aviation to capture youths’ imaginations and promote the importance of education and discovering your interests and passions. His message to them is: “You can fly helicopters just like me or do anything else you love and want to do and you can get paid for it. You just need to stay focused in school and you will realize your dreams.”

Since 2008, the program has visited 56 schools and institutions, reaching thousands of students across Los Angeles County.

Teachers and school administrators often say they notice an increased level of motivation from their students after the school visits. They’re more curious, ask more questions, but most importantly, make a real connection between their education and what they want to do when they grow up. This impact lasts long after the school year has ended.

Have Positive Vibrations Visit You

Positive Vibrations visits schools at all levels from preschool to high school. We’ve even visited correctional facilities. Robin has a non-intrusive and subtle way of connecting with youth regardless of their background. Positive Vibrations encourages positive activity in areas where youth are considered at-risk. We suggest requesting visits for Drug-Free week, school assemblies, career fairs, and other school-wide events to maximize impact. On occasion, fellow Compton School Police officers, school and city officials, and/or Tuskegee Airmen of the Los Angeles Chapter accompany Robin on school visits to make an even greater impact.
