In a partnership started by former AmeriCorps VISTA Wayne Huang, Long Beach BLAST and TAM completed its pilot Academic Mentoring Program with 10 students and three mentors. The mentors helped mentees with homework, additional reading skills, emphasized the importance of academics, and provided encouragement for their mentees’ success.

Mentor Belinda had this to say about working with her mentee Harmonie: “Working with Harmonie has truly been fulfilling. Harmonie is a very hard worker and has a strong desire to learn. Harmonie is always happy and smiling and ready to learn. I have enjoyed working with Harmonie and I hope she always continue to work hard. I am really going to miss Harmonie and Skyla.”

Mentee Harmonie had this to say about having a mentor and positive role model: “Belinda is my favorite tutor and I feel happy with her!”

The mission of Long Beach BLAST (Better Learning for All Students Today) is to improve success for at-risk students through collaboration and innovative approaches to mentoring and learning.

If you and your child(ren) are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact myra@tamuseum.org or call 310-618-1155 to enroll. Space is limited and based on mentor availability.
