Youngest World Record-Setting African American Pilots To Appear As Grand Marshalls and Special Guests In Upcoming Events

Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum, Compton, California, December 4, 2004–The youngest world-record setting African-American pilots, whose achievement captured the attention of the world, are scheduled to appear in several upcoming events. Major appearances will include a hero’s welcome by their communities when the youth appear as Grand Marshalls in the Watts-Willowbrook and Compton Christmas parades, and at the official opening of African American History Month for the City of Los Angeles.

The boys, pictured above with SpaceShipOne, have been nominated by Senator Barbara Boxer for Congressional Recognition, and received notable awards and proclamations from Congresswoman Juanita Millender-MacDonald, Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally, Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Braithwaite-Burke, Councilman Bernard Parks, Compton Mayor Eric Perrodin, the NAACP, Walmart and others.

Jimmy Haywood (11) set a world record on September 25, 2004 as the youngest African American male to fly a plane round trip international when he flew 20 hours to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and back. Kenny Roy (14) met Canadian requirements in Boundary Bay to set a world record on September 24, 2004 as the youngest African American male to be legally licensed to fly solo.
