GIVE HOLLYWOOD SKY TOURS ALTITUDE WITH ATTITUDE
COMPTON WOODLEY AIRPORT, CA – August 1, 2002 – While most are looking at the status of diversity in front of the camera, ace helicopter pilot and celebrity mentor Robin Petgrave is shaking up the scenes behind the camera. One of the only, if not the only African American helicopter pilots flying film, television, music video, and commercial production jobs in the entertainment industry, Petgrave (her prefers to be referred to as Robin) is steadily breaking down the diversity or lack there of barriers.
Born to fly with over 10,000 hours of flight experience, Jamaican born, American raised Robin has more than earned his wings and the respect of film and television industry professionals. A director and producers dream, Robin’s def flying skills, uncanny sense of production timing, and a photographic eye for “the shot”, gets better results than originally planned, saves on aerial sequence production costs, and makes the production crew and talent look great.
So what is Robin up to when he’s not flying stuntmen around? Keeping and eye on his reinvention of the helicopter tour industry and mentoring economically deprived future aviators. As a way of giving back, Robin donates the profits from Celebrity Helicopters to Tomorrow Aeronautical Museum, which he founded. T.A.M., as it is affectionately called by its youth members, is one of the only interactive aviation museums in the United States that offers hands-on involvement with its static displays and virtual reality aircraft simulators.
On any typical day in between Positive Vibration school visits, Celebrity Helicopter production gigs, helicopter tours, Robin can be found giving inspirational speeches to groups of up to fifty kids in the museum’s 6000 sq ft hanger, on the ramp in front of one T.A.M.’s static historical aircraft displays, or in the state of the art virtual reality computer center.
On a typical evening, Celebrity Helicopters is giving couples and small groups Robin’s signature “night tour” along the coast of Los Angeles and over Hollywood’s celebrated landmarks and celebrity homes. Robin’s other signature flight, the even more popular dinner destination drop-off tour keeps busy with couples celebrating everything from birthdays and anniversaries to job promotions and first dates.
And there you have it. Robin Petgrave at the forefront of cutting edge diversity in two of the most challenging industries. So the next time you’re at the movies or watching television, whether or not it looks like diversity working on the screen, you can be assured Robin and his helicopter are somewhere behind the scenes making a difference.
